Buffalo State Swimming & Diving Races Past Brockport on Senior Day

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Buffalo State tallied 22 first place finishes and multiple season bests as both the men’s and women’s team raced past visiting Brockport on Saturday afternoon.

NOTABLES

  • Connor Mergler (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) led the Buffalo State men with four top place finishes. The sophomore swimmer helped anchor the winning 200 freestyle relay that also included Kyle Siskar (E. Amherst/Williamsville North), Matt Ringer (Queensbury/Queensbury) and Ryan McHale (Lancaster/Lancaster), and finished with a season best time of 1:29.02
  • Mergler also won the 100 fly in 54.33, tabbed a season best first place finish in the 100 back with a time of 54.55 and nearly broke his own pool record in the 50 free, winning in 21.18.
  • Tim Petranchuk (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) led in the distance races with three first place finishes, winning the 1000 free in 10:56.92, and tallying season bests in the 200 free (1:54.39) and 500 free (5:12.07).
  • Other season bests on the men’s side included wins from Tyler Minnick (Latham/Shaker) in the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.65, Justin Moser (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) in the 1-meter dive with an overall score of 259.20 and Ringer in the 200 back with a time of 2:14.62.
  • Rounding out top finishes for the men were Samuel Alfonso (Cheektowaga/Cleveland Hill) in the 100 breast (1:08.80), McHale in the 100 free (51.22), Jake Brigham (Binghamton/Binghamton) in the 200 breast (2:30.40) and the 200 medley relay made up of Ringer, McHale, Siskar and Tom DePasquale (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) (1:45.28).
  • Alison Kolczynski (Hamburg/Frontier) led the Buffalo State women with four top place finishes. She helped the Bengals start things off with a season best 2:01.49 in the 200 medley relay that also included Michelle DelFavero (Auburn/Home Schooled), Sarah Exposito (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) and Luz Negron (Bronx/MAVAD).
  • Kolczynski won the 1000 free by over 45 seconds with a season best time of 11:24.66. The senior also finished the 500 free in first with a time of 5:38.70 and was a part of the winning 200 freestyle relay that included Bri Chehovich (Auburn/Auburn), Negron and DelFavero.
  • Del Favero recorded a season best in the 100 breast, finishing in first with a time of 1:13.05.
  • A 2:24.73 first place finish in the 200 fly was a season best for Exposito, who also finished first with a season best in the 100 fly (1:04.46).
  • Rounding out top finishes for the women was Chehovich in the 200 breast with a winning time of 2:47.02.
  • Saturday’s meet was also Senior Day and the Bengals took time to honor their seniors competing in the final home meet of their careers. Seniors on the women’s side included DelFavero, Exposito, Kolczynski and Sara Gardner (Webster/Webster Thomas). Seniors on the men’s side included Ringer and Siskar.
